Oh Canada…it was my second home for so many years. I volunteered for a well known conservation group in the east. I researched my MSc and BSc projects in the west, focussing on large hoofed mammals for both. I’ve lived in remote villages in Saskatchewan and British Columbia, found myself enchanted with Alberta, and have felt the scale of the rest from Greyhound buses. Canada taught me sharply, brutally, beautifully about the friction and hope that mark the boundary between people and nature – lessons that I’ve heeded ever since.
